Since 2015, Immigration Canada has allowed the Express Entry of skilled workers to Calgary. The Express Entry system has reduced the processing time of skilled worker immigration in Calgary. The highest scoring candidates will then be sent an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in one of the following three programs:

• The Federal Skilled Worker program: Federal Skilled Workers are people with suitable education, work experience, age and language abilities under Canada’s official languages. They are selected under the Express Entry Immigration system to apply for permanent residence. This program is for the candidates who have been shortlisted to immigrate to Canada because of their skills and work experience (under skill type 0, skill level A or skill level B category on the Canadian National Occupational Classification). You will need at least one year of experience in the skill within the last 10 years of your career. However, these limits don’t apply when you have a permanent job offer.
• The Federal Skilled Trades program: It’s a program for people who are qualified in a skilled trade and are willing to become permanent residents of Canada. Candidates who have at least two years of full-time work experience or an equal amount of part-time work experience in a skilled trade are eligible. The experience is only valid if it is within the last five years of your career.
• The Canadian Experience Class: The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. You should have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada during the last three years of your career.
